About Me

My extra-curricular interests include:

  • Motorcycles (adventure, dirt and street bikes)
  • 4x4 Offroad (Jeep CJ-7)
  • Guitars (electric and acoustic)
  • Sound Engineering and Recording
  • Aviation

Probably in that order.

Lessons Learned

  • Theory is when you know something, but it doesn't work.
  • Practice is when something works, but you don't know why.
  • Programmers combine theory and practice: Nothing works and they don't know why.

"Programming is the act of deciding now what will happen in the future." - from Organizational Patterns of Agile Software Development.

"Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it. - Brian Kernighan

"Learn from the past, predict the future" - Doug Campbell

My name is Bruce Schubert.  I'm a software designer and developer, and the author of Emxsys.

By day, I'm the Director of Software Development for AeroComputers, Inc., a manufacturer of Tactical Mission Management Systems (moving maps) for police and fire helicopters.  Other hours, when I'm not pursuing my extra-curricular activities, I work on the Emxsys project.

In years past, I served as an ICS Situation Unit Leader for the Ventura County Fire Department (California).  And many years before that I was a volunteer Battalion Chief for Kitsap County Fire District 7 (Washington).
