About Doug Campbell

Doug Campbell worked 32 years for the US Forest Service in fire control, retiring in 1984. Wildland Fire Specialists was created out of Doug's continued interest in the safety of firefighters. The mission:

Doug CampbellDoug Campbell's US Forest Service career in fire control spanned thirty-two years between 1952 and 1984. He spent eighteen years as a District Fire Control/Management Officer. He became qualified in operations, planning and in fire behavior analysis. On many occasions, between 1987 and the present, Doug has been called back to active duty to perform duties as a fire behavior analyst (FBA) on wildland fires. During this period The Campbell Prediction System (CPS) was developed and tested on active wildland fires.

The Campbell Prediction System book and the Fire Behavior Tactics Course came from 30 years of wildfire experience and 10 years of course development.

The Campbell Prediction System book is a collection of stories and information about wildland fire situations. The book describes how to make observations and derive predictions of fire behavior change that will enable the firefighter to select the best tactic for the situation.

The Fire Behavior Tactics Course includes the CPS book as the primary textbook. The outline, objectives and other information are available upon request.

Wildland Fire Specialists offer services to solve wildland fire problems. Wildland Fire Specialists is available for consultation services on a variety of special wildfire exposure problems such as community planning.
